Change in leadership at SFS Finnish Standards – Antti Karppinen appointed as Acting Managing Director
After Helena Vänskä stepped down as Managing Director of SFS Finnish Standards, MSc (Tech.) Antti Karppinen was appointed as Acting Managing Director starting from 25 September 2025.
Antti Karppinen has over 30 years of experience in standardization. For the past years, Karppinen has acted as the SFS Head of International Affairs and as a member of the steering group. Karppinen has represented SFS in the Technical Board of the European Committee for Standardization for around 20 years and has been the presenter for the SFS Technical Board on Standardization.
“Standardization has become an increasingly significant strategic area of competition, where shared practices for future technologies and ecosystems, among others, are agreed on and contended for. Finland, too, has become keenly aware of this, and there is much yet to be done. The context for standardization is also currently subject to re-evaluation, which means that the whole standardization community must invest in monitoring and influencing activities. I am grateful for the trust placed in me and will strive to steer SFS and the whole community towards these goals until a new Managing Director is appointed,” Acting Managing Director Antti Karppinen says.

SFS will immediately start the recruitment process for a new Managing Director,” Chair of the SFS Administrative Board Kim Hagström says.
