Helena Vänskä, Managing Director of SFS, elected to the Board of the European standardization organisation CEN
Helena Vänskä, Managing Director of the Finnish Standards Association SFS, has been elected to the Administrative Board of the European standardization organisation CEN for a two-year term. This offers Finland and the Finnish industry a significant vantage point to the development of European standardization.
CEN is striving for a sustainable, competitive and secure Europe through European and global standards. European standardization sets the common rules for the European internal market while simultaneously affecting Europe’s position in the world trade. In the Administrative Board of CEN Finland will take part in decisions concerning European standardization guidelines and measures related to the implementation of the CEN Strategy 2030, among other things.
CEN published its Strategy 2030 earlier this year. Its ambitious goals include the recognition of the European standardization system as an important strategic tool in the EU and EFTA as well as strengthening CEN’s international position.
“The goals of CEN and SFS are in alignment: we promote sustainable growth and well-being, and we want the strategic value of standardization to be more widely understood,” says Helena Vänskä.
“I look forward to working in the Administrative Board at CEN and contributing to making Europe stronger in the global marketplace.”
Helena Vänskä’s two-year term of office begins on 1 January 2022.
WHAT IS CEN?
CEN (European Committee for Standardization) is a European standardization organisation that brings together the national standardization organisations of EU and EFTA countries. SFS is a member of CEN representing Finland. The 34 member countries of CEN are obliged to adopt all European standards (EN standards) nationally and to withdraw any conflicting standards. In this way the common rules of the European internal market can be upheld.
