Novel solutions are needed to reduce emissions from telecommunications, and the focus is now on data centres with high energy consumption. The new ERF standard gives data centres the means to measure, in a reliable and comparable manner, how much of the heat that they produce can be recovered and exploited. The international standard, prepared under the guidance of Finnish experts, helps data centres to cut not only their CO2 emissions but also energy costs.
In order to be successful, companies and public organisations have to consider their impact on the people and world around us. Narrow-minded profit-seeking does not go far when stakeholders demand responsibility.
The European standardization organisations CEN and CENELEC have published their common strategy towards 2030. The Finnish Standards Association SFS, too, has recently published its Strategy 2030. Both strategies strive to promote European success in the changing world.
